Website Issues Explained

Competition News General News

As many of you who have tried to enter  the Tyrella and Ballindenisk events know, there have been severe problems in connecting to the website.

The issue has been caused by hundreds of people all trying to access the system at the exact same time and the system, unfortunately, cannot handle that many simultaneous users with multiple devices, so some people were getting the Gateway timeouts.

It’s not that the system was down, it was that the system was so busy dealing with the people who were already on it, that it couldn’t reply in time for new connections

Worldnet Payment Issues

We are also aware that members are making entries which have been paid for via Worldnet but are not showing in the entries for the event.

When someone has paid for an entry and Worldnet was redirected back to the Eventing Ireland website, it was not getting a response in time because the Eventing Ireland system was overloaded and couldn’t connect, and it also timed out, so although the payment was made, the message back to our system never came through to mark the entry as paid.

Michael Adams did significant work last week, following the issues encountered at Tyrella 1 and Ballindenisk, and we have now got a resolution to the problem for the opening of Tyrella 3 this Sunday.

In the meantime, it would be helpful if only one member of each household was appointed to place entries using only one device. Clearly, this would lessen the pressure on our servers and give everyone a better chance of getting through as well as easing the pressure on Head Office dealing with the aftermath.
