A highly respected figure in international eventing, Albert brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously held the position of High Performance Manager for the HSI Senior Eventing Programme and the eventing youth programmes. His impact was immediate and widely recognised, playing a key role in preparing Irish combinations on the Olympic pathway and contributing to the evolution of the programme.

A former Olympian, Dag Albert has represented Sweden at the highest level of the sport, competing at the Olympic Games in both 1996 and 2008. Over the years, he has developed a strong reputation not only as a competitor but also as a coach and performance leader, guiding athletes across Europe and the UK to success on the international stage.

Albert’s appointment for 2025 will see him lead the development of Ireland’s senior eventing athletes while also expanding his focus to include the vital Young Rider cohort, supporting Ireland’s pipeline of emerging talent as they transition toward senior ranks.

Speaking about the appointment, Horse Sport Ireland Avalon Everett, Head of Sport, Legal and Governance said:

“Dag has consistently demonstrated professionalism, insight, and a strong rapport with both our senior and youth athletes over the past number of years. We are pleased to re-engage his leadership within Irish eventing for the 2025 season, with an expanded focus on supporting our Young Riders as they build towards the European Championships and future progression. His international experience and calm, focused approach will be invaluable in nurturing the next generation of Irish eventers, while maintaining a high-performance standard at senior level.”

Dag Albert added:

“I’m delighted to continue in the role as HP Manager.  Last season was a tremendous success for the senior eventers, and I look forward to working with them as we build towards the Europeans this year.  I’m also excited to be involved once again in the youth program and to support their development throughout 2025”.

The 2025 High Performance Eventing Programme will commence with campaigning across key national and international competitions as Ireland continues its preparations for the FEI European Championships 2025.
