Dear Member
We are all aware of the insurance crisis the hunts have experienced over the last few years. But you won’t be aware that Eventing Ireland has been going through a similar experience itself. Our insurance costs have gone up by 76% since 2021! Without our insurance, we do not have a sport!
Insurance cost by year – 76% increase since 2021
2023: €101,192.96
2022: €82,334.00
2021: €57,648.00
As you are aware, Eventing Ireland subtracts a levy to cover insurance on every national and international entry. We do not aim to make a profit. We simply wish to cover the cost on behalf of our members.
We currently deduct €12 from every national entry for EI110 classes and higher and €6 for EI105 and lower. In addition, we deduct €15 for short format classes and €20 for long format classes for international events. To date, this has been sufficient.
Now we need to recoup a higher levy to pay the insurance. You will have noticed that in a time of rising costs, we have avoided raising the price of national entries, membership, and registration. Likewise, we now loathe to increase the insurance levy for National events.
Considering that Internationals include up to 5 days on-site, stabling, socials, and Eventing, the international levy is unfair compared to the nationals. And the level of risk is higher!
The three remaining internationals of 2023 have agreed to work with us and increase their entry fees by €30 to cover this crisis. We will then meet with the organisers in November to plan the 2024 levy. We thank Kilguilkey, Lisgarvan and Ballindenisk Internationals for their cooperation, and we reiterate that we do not wish to profit from the insurance. Likewise, we cannot make a loss. We thank you for your cooperation and hope you understand. Internationals are still considerably cheaper than the UK.
Thank you so much for your attention and participation.
